I didn’t take the greatest picture of it, but damn it, it’s my picture of it, so here it is:
I can’t help it . . . here also is a gorgeous painting by Giovanni Paoli Panini (or Pannini) of the basilica when you first walk in (below). It slightly depicts (more than anything else can) how massive the place is. It had to be pretty fabulous to impress a pagan like me:
