This gorgeous abbey was built in the first half of the 19th century so it’s not that old, but it’s gone through a few owners in its short life. Romantically, a family lived in it happily for many years. Believe it or not, for the last 80 years or so it’s been owned by a group of Benedictine nuns.
At this moment, I am going to refrain from even a subtle criticism of the Catholic Church, and just enjoy Kylemore Abbey again:
